Knight Scapes Irrigation Conservation Systems

Knight-Scapes has been employing water saving techniques since our inception. With the evolvement of technology and our continuing education we have been able to expand these practices to make more of a drastic impact on our resources and your water consumption.

We have been professionally installing irrigation systems since 1994 and have built a stellar reputation throughout our community. Every irrigation system that Knight-Scapes installs incorporates a rain sensor.

Many contractors try to upsell you on this extremely important device that will save you money and prevent over watering. Irritrol makes an exceptional wireless rain sensor that automatically interrupts your irrigation system when significant rain fall occurs. The rain sensor will automatically turn the system back on when the rain is absorbed into the landscape and the moisture in the sensor has evaporated.

Remember, whether we are installing a new system or providing service and maintenance of an existing system, Knight-Scapes is the professional irrigation company to trust.

Drip Irrigation Systems

Knight-Scapes also offers drip irrigation technology for your landscaping needs. Drip irrigation is a slow and precise delivery of water to your plants and allows you to effectively water your flowers, ground covers, shrubs and trees directly at the root ball. This results in a reduction of runoff, overspray, and evaporation.

With a slow water application rate water seeps into the soil, reducing the stress that plants often undergo from variable soil moisture conditions. The constant direct moisture improves plant growth and conserves water since only the plant’s root zone is irrigated. Another added benefit to drip irrigation is weed reduction because the area between the plants is not irrigated plus the water application rate can be tailored to fit each individual plant.

Drip irrigation consists of tubing and emitters that are custom installed to protect each plant, flower, or tree no matter what their water demands may be. This is a great conservation approach in watering your landscape and is very effective and efficient.

Knight-Scapes has extensive experience with the design, installation and maintenance of drip irrigation systems and delivers the highest standard in customer service for all your landscape irrigation needs.

Rain Harvesting Systems

A great, inexpensive way to initiate water conservation is by installing a rain barrel. A rain barrel allows you to divert the water from your roof through your gutters to the rain barrel and store the runoff water.

Rain barrels range in size and are commonly linked together to allow for more water harvesting. Rain barrels average 50-60 gallons each and with new attractive designs the barrels are a practical and functional garden accent. These barrels are outfitted with overflow protection and a hose bib. The hose bib gives you the flexibility to either hook up a hose or fill up a watering can. Unlike well or city water, rain water is untreated and does not contain fluoride, chlorine, minerals and other chemicals which is better for your lawn and garden.

Also, city water restrictions don’t apply to rain barrels. Stored rain water means that you can keep your garden and lawn green despite any watering restrictions during droughts. With ever changing climates and rain fluctuations, it is important to have some control on the watering of your landscape. Rainwater collection is an easy way to save money while helping the environment. Most rainwater collection systems do not use mechanical systems for operation; therefore they don’t use energy resources either.

With rain barrels you will be keeping the ground healthy, saving money and saving valuable aquifer and reservoir water.

Knight-Scapes can plan a rain harvesting design to suit your needs and install this environmentally friendly system with quality service assurances.

Cistern Systems

When considering an eco-friendly irrigation system for your property, look no further. Knight-Scapes has positioned ourselves as the leader in this field. We offer a solution that has been around for over 2000 years but upgraded to today's standards. Through modern technology and engineering a product called a ‘Cistern’ was developed. Cisterns are used for multiple applications including commercial, residential and industrial projects.

A Cistern system follows a very similar concept to that of a rain barrel. The Cistern is a large tank like structure that is buried beneath the ground which acts as a storage tank. The roof runoff from your home or business is then diverted and stored within the tank. It has overflow protection so that the tank does not over fill and includes a submersible pump. The pump allows us to connect our custom designed irrigation system and use the water harvested to supply the precise amount of water for your turf and landscape.

Knight-Scapes recognizes that a Cistern system requires rain to fill up the tank and if there is insufficient rainfall there will be no water to irrigate your landscape investment. This is why we have incorporated a supplemental source of water into the projects that require it. The typical supplemental sources are a well or city water, which tie directly into the Cistern and add water on needed basis only.

When we size a system for a project we consider the water demands of the landscape and the duration the system runs to estimate the gallons used per cycle. Once we have the projected gallons per cycle we size the tank to accommodate 3-4 cycles.

Your turf will have a more significant demand of water than your flowers, plants and trees so being able to provide the right amount of water will help you keep a healthier, striving landscape.

There are three common pop-up style sprinkler heads.

  • Rotor
  • Rotary Nozzle
  • Spray Head

Rotor heads are the most commonly used in open grassy areas because of their sweeping pattern and their ability to deliver the precise amount of water over a large area. Rotary nozzles are a great way to incorporate the small, hard to cover, areas on a rotor zone. This allows us to install the rotary nozzle on a rotor zone while keeping a matched precipitation rate throughout the covered area. Spray nozzles are most commonly used on smaller areas of turf and throughout flower beds around your property.

Knight-Scapes draws on all of these important factors in the design of your irrigation system and provides service, maintenance, and the industry leading warranty to your project.
